Marine Biologist
Sarasota Bay Explorers in Sarasota, FL offers daily Sea Life Encounter cruises on spectacular Sarasota Bay. We are seeking a Biologist or Marine Biologist for a part-time seasonal position for our upcoming season.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Guide tours and narrate using a headset microphone
- Maintain equipment including nets, aquariums, containers, etc.
- Act as a first mate when on cruises and tie lines, etc.
- Handle all front desk tasks including answering phones, taking reservations in online system, managing guest check-ins, promoting cruises, and sharing information with visitors.
- **This position is very physical and requires the ability to safely deploy and retrieve a trawl net as well as a ramp for guests to disembark at Edwards Island. This physical ability should be considered and this position not be applied for if these position requirements cannot be safely met.**
Qualifications:
- Bachelors or above in the Environmental Sciences, Biology, or Marine Biology.
- Prior experience in tour interpretation, traditional teaching, or public speaking is a plus
- Prior customer service experience is a plus
- Great customer service and communication skills
- Basic computer skills
- Responsible and organized
- Ability to lift the ramp and contents in trawl net which can be over 20 lbs.
- Drug-free workplace must pass drug testing for consideration
- CPR certification is a plus
- Multilingual is a plus
Boat Captain
Sarasota Bay Explorers in Sarasota, FL is currently seeking a Boat Captain for a part-time seasonal position for our upcoming season. We run 3 and sometimes 4 trips per day for our Eco & Sunset Tours on 46ft pontoon tour vessels accommodating up to 40 passengers.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Running daily tours (up to 4 a day) for our very busy season
- Maintaining Daily Boat Logs / Daily Money Logs and Reports / All Ships Business
- Greetings of passengers both on and off the boat
- Strict enforcement of all Coast Guard Safety Regulations
Qualifications:
- Minimum 25 ton master license, 50-ton master license preferred
